Your files stay on your Mac

Meiya is a macOS file-reference utility developed by Michael Liu. File handling stays on your Mac, without an account, analytics, advertising or tracking. Meiya does not upload your files, shelf contents or diagnostics to the developer. The version downloaded from our website contacts Lemon Squeezy for license activation and occasional verification; the App Store version does not include that licensing connection.

This policy covers the Meiya app and information you choose to share for support. Contact: meiya@arrowplane.ca.

What Meiya stores locally

Meiya saves references to files and folders you add: item identifiers, names, original paths, file-type and availability information, dates, and macOS security-scoped bookmarks that preserve permission to access those items. It also saves preferences such as appearance, size, position, ignored applications and whether to keep references after dragging them out.

Meiya holds references, not backup copies of the original files. It reads selected files when needed for access checks, thumbnails, previews or actions you request. Thumbnails are cached in memory with bounded limits. macOS and file-provider services can separately cache or download content as part of their own behavior.

Removal, backups and recovery

Removing an item or clearing Meiya removes it from the active shelf without deleting, moving, renaming or editing the original. The app keeps a previous saved shelf as a recovery backup and preserves rejected archive data when recovery is needed. These files contain reference metadata and bookmarks, not copies of your original files. Clearing the shelf does not erase every historical recovery file.

Saved references remain on this Mac until removed. Recovery files remain until replaced by the app’s backup process or explicitly removed. Undo history and the in-app diagnostic event buffer last for the current session. Deleting Meiya.app alone may leave saved app data behind.

To remove saved shelf metadata and recovery copies, quit Meiya, then remove Shelf.json, Shelf.json.backup and the Recovery folder from Meiya’s Application Support folder inside its macOS sandbox container. The container identifier is dev.arrowplane.ledge, retained from Meiya’s earlier name. Removing those app-owned files does not remove your originals. Contact support if you need help locating them. Your own system backups may retain earlier copies under their separate retention settings.

Drag detection and system services

While automatic appearance is enabled, Meiya observes relevant mouse-drag events and drag-pasteboard file-type signals to decide when to appear. Ignored-application preferences are evaluated locally. It does not keep a clipboard history or record typed text.

When you explicitly copy held files, Meiya prepares file references on the system clipboard. When you open a file, preview it, reveal it in Finder or drag it to another app, macOS and the chosen destination handle that action. Their own privacy practices apply. Launch at Login is enabled only when you choose it in Settings.

Website purchases and license activation

The direct-download version uses Lemon Squeezy to sell and activate a one-time license for two Mac installations. Checkout information, including your email and payment details, is handled by Lemon Squeezy under its privacy practices. The app does not receive your payment card information.

Activation and license checks send your license code and a random installation reference to api.lemonsqueezy.com. Lemon Squeezy also receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address. Meiya does not send a hardware serial number, computer name, file names, paths or file contents for licensing. License responses can include purchase/customer information; Meiya reads only the license, product and activation fields needed to verify access.

Meiya stores the code, activation identifier, random reference, product identifiers and last successful check in a local, non-synchronizing Keychain item. Checks normally occur no more than weekly when you launch or foreground Meiya, with at most one automatic attempt per day in the current session after failures. You may check manually. Successful verification allows up to 30 days of offline use before another check is needed to add files. Files already held remain retrievable.

Deactivate This Mac requests release of its activation and removes the saved Keychain record after confirmation. Interrupted requests may need support to resolve. Uninstalling the app does not automatically release a slot or delete Keychain data. Purchase and licensing records held by Lemon Squeezy are separate from your shelf metadata; contact meiya@arrowplane.ca for licensing or deletion questions. App Store purchases use Apple’s systems and do not use this activation flow.

Support and diagnostics you choose to share

Copy Diagnostics places a report on your clipboard; it does not send it. The report includes app version, state, item counts, display configuration and recent errors. The home-directory prefix is redacted, but error messages can still contain file names or other paths. Review and remove personal information before sharing. The report does not attach your original files.

If you email support, you choose to share your email address and the message, attachments or diagnostics you include. Email is handled by your and the recipient’s email providers. Do not send passwords, security-scoped bookmarks or sensitive original files. You can contact meiya@arrowplane.ca about information you have shared.

Web links and Apple services

Help and privacy links open in your browser only when you choose them. Visiting a website sends ordinary connection information, such as an IP address and browser headers, to its host. Website hosting and email are separate from Meiya’s local app processing.

Apple handles App Store purchases, downloads and updates under Apple’s privacy practices. System crash reporting, cloud-file synchronization and Mac backups are controlled by your macOS and provider settings; Meiya does not implement its own telemetry service.

This website and hosted checkout

This website stores only your appearance preference in localStorage. It has no application analytics or advertising scripts. The site does not collect or store license codes, payment details or activation records. Hosting providers receive normal request information such as IP addresses and browser headers.

When you choose to buy, you leave this website for Lemon Squeezy’s hosted checkout. Lemon Squeezy handles checkout, receipts, license delivery and order access under its privacy policy. Returning to this website does not verify a payment or activate a license. Enter your code only in Meiya → License… on your Mac.

Support email and purchase records are separate from local shelf data. Direct-sale wording and a specific support-retention schedule remain under owner review; no fixed deletion period is promised here. Contact meiya@arrowplane.ca with privacy or deletion questions.
